In the Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) key learning area, students explore how people interact with each other and with environments. SOSE involves investigations of controversial and challenging issues and promotes critical thinking in the development of optimistic future visions.
SOSE learning activities encourage young people to be active participants in their world. Learners appreciate and apply different perspectives to deepen their understandings of SOSE concepts. They investigate social, political, economic, environmental and cultural ideas and issues, and develop their capacity for effective and meaningful responses. They clarify their personal values and acknowledge other’s values and world views.
Students develop awareness of their own connections to people and places through understanding the world views and connections of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people to places and other groups.
