Yugambeh Language
Waterford West State School’s Languages program provides students with the opportunity to see language as a means of real communication (a personal artefact or capability) rather than simply as an object of study. The majority of class time is spent in purposeful language use, where the focus is not only on what is being said but also on how it is being said. Students are given opportunities to reflect on these experiences and their linguistic and intercultural implications.
Cultural Studies
There are many different cultures within Australia. Students gain awareness of the history and lifestyles of a diverse ranger of cultures and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout Australia. Students consider their own opinions, experiences and understandings to develop respect for all cultures and themselves. This allows students to become productive members of our society with respect for the greater community in which we live.
Music
The aim of our Music Program is to develop an enjoyment and understanding of all areas of music. In the learning of Music, students experience sequential and developmental activities which are greatly varied and focus on singing, playing some instruments, listening to music, reading and writing music.
